Upcoming etching series: Growing Blue; the story of Sukumo
With the time spent on hand polishing, filing or sanding plates, engraving, inking and printing, sometimes there is more meaning in the time and labour spent on a process than its outcome. Indigo is similar, with its many stages before the final dye pigment, and Sukumo, a unique strain of indigo involving a 100-day composting technique, is all the more fascinating.
I developed an interest in imagery that depicts craftworkers; figures mid-process, featuring their tools and studios as well as people in gallery spaces. This became the best way to express my love for process, craft and museums and established my indigo print series, illustrating Sukumo. This page is dedicated to that project.
